Another year has come and almost gone. Hopefully everyone has had an enjoyable time at Eaglemont Tennis Club (ETC) this year. We are keen to boost numbers across all competitions in 2014, in particular Pennant, and I encourage members to recruit friends and family to join ETC to play tennis, no matter what their playing ability. Please see below for try out dates.
The Annual General Meeting was held in August; the following members were elected to the General Management Committee: Phil Cook, Gavin Cox, Nicola Cresp (Vice President), Rob Edgley, Peter Gorey (President & Treasurer), Ally Gyton, John MaIhews (Vice President), Sandra Parsons and Gordon Smith (Secretary). Pam Watkins has resigned and the Committee thanks her for her service to ETC. We welcome Ally Gyton who is the new member of the Committee.
On behalf of the General Management Committee, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

The North Eastern Junior Tennis Association (NEJTA) 2013 Spring season has concluded. The semi finals started on November 22nd and in a sweep of the competiton, 14 of 18 teams qualified. A special mention to the Section 15 Girls and Section 23 Boys teams who made the finals in their first season. A Section 1 Boys team will be representing ETC for the first time in many years. Congratulations to all players in making it this far and good luck in the finals.
Applications for the 2014 Autumn season have now closed and a record 20 new juniors applied to play for the first time next season. It’s an exciting time to be part of the new wave of juniors at ETC and we encourage all current players to invite their friends along to give the game a go.
After an absence of many years, the NEJTA Junior Tournament was held in September and ETC was chosen as the major venue. More than 200 entries were received and all those involved praised the organisation, management and venue for the tournament. There were some exciting results from ETC juniors, including Helena Spiridis winning her singles Division and Eva Cerra and Alicia Moorfield taking home the winners trophy in C Grade Doubles in their first tournament together.
If you’re nearing the end of your time in junior tennis, why not join a mixed team for the HDTA Saturday afternoon competition? It operates over two seasons – like juniors – home and away across the same district. Matches start at 1.00 pm and two men and two women play in a team each week. It is open age and the format is 2 sets of women’s and men’s doubles and 2 sets of mixed doubles. Those wishing to put their name down for a team, or submit a team of their own, will be able to in February 2014. Interested in finding out more? Give Nicola a call on 0413 868 517.
ETC competes against other tennis clubs in HDTA competitions on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Night tennis in the NENTG district is also a very popular, with matches played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. For further information, see the competitions page.
We are looking for more players to represent ETC in the 2014 Tennis Victoria Open Pennant Competition which starts in April. Matches are played on Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons, with the format alternating between singles and doubles every week. There is also a veterans doubles competition. If you are interested in playing or would like to try out, we are running a practice session on Saturday 2nd February from 12.00 – 2.00pm.
With warmer weather and longer period of daylight, now is the time to come and join other members for a social hit of tennis on the second Monday of every month. Social tennis nights are starting up again due to interest from members and will start on Monday 9th December from 6pm.
ETC’s new club sponsor is Tennis Warehouse Australia and we are lucky to have Wes Fry (who plays Men’s Grade 2 Pennant) and his wife Cath as members at our Club. They are available to help you with your tennis equipment needs at their Fitzroy shop on Alexandra Parade (next to Officeworks) or online. They are also offering a special for all ETC members: a free tin of balls with any racquet purchased over $50. To receive this offer, please mention this newsletter when you visit TWA. This offer expires on 31st March 2014.

En‐tout‐cas courts need to be well watered in the summer months to maintain good playing conditions. You can easily stop the surface from blowing away by lightly watering the courts before bagging.
