Welcome to another edition of Eaglemont Tennis Club’s (ETC) newsletter with a special welcome to new members.
As some members may already know, ETC is trialling social tennis on Monday nights (excluding public holidays that fall on a Monday). If you’re new to ETC, this would be a good opportunity for you to meet other members of the club.
The Club Championships recently concluded and I would like to congratulate all participants. We had a lot of members enter various events and I hope this will inspire others to join in next year.
On another note, the clubhouse was recently broken into through the back door. This was due to the dead bolt at the back door not being engaged. It is essential that the person locking the Clubhouse ensure that the back door is properly locked.
In the meantime, happy hitting.
President
Peter Gorey

ETC continues to enter teams in a number of competitions, such as the Heidelberg and Districts Tennis Association, North Eastern Night Group and Pennant. Competitions are run during the week and on the weekend in a variety of formats. Recently, ETC has won flags in : Section 8 Tuesday Ladies Spring 2012; Section 2 Thursday Ladies Summer 2012; and Section 1 Sunday Open Singles / Doubles Autumn 2013. If you would like to represent ETC in a competition, please email either or .
The North Eastern Junior Tennis Association’s (NEJTA) 2013 Autumn season is well underway and ETC entered a staggering 17 teams across both the boys and girls competitions - one of the strongest clubs in the region today. Every season there is an influx of boys and girls playing their first season of competitive tennis, and it’s great to see the club fostering a junior and family environment. The growth and success of ETC’s junior members is also evident outside of the NEJTA competition with Ted Williams, Tom Ciszewski, Cooper White and Jemma Carbis achieving great results in their age groups both at state and national level.
In other news, the NEJTA will be running their annual junior tournament in September this year. ETC has been selected to host the three day tournament out of all tennis clubs in the region. Being selected to host the tournament is recognition for the Junior Committee, parents and juniors at ETC who help to run the junior competition on Saturday mornings and represent ETC in a very friendly and professional manner.
Women’s TennisFit classes are run on Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings from 10-11:30 am during school terms. The classes are an ideal aerobic workout with a mix of competitive doubles and singles and technique improvement drills. All standards are catered for and it's a fun way to improve your fitness and tennis game at the same time.
A mixed Cardio Tennis session on Monday and Wednesday nights is also available to ETC members. The sessions run from 7-8 pm and involve fast-paced movement drills and doubles play.
For those members who would like to improve their tennis in a social environment with friends, a private group coaching lesson can also be arranged during the day, after work or on weekends. Please note that a fee does apply for all tennis programs. To arrange a free trial during Term 2 for any of these programs above, please contact Shane on 0414 373 586 or register your attendance via www.yarratennis.com.au
After many requests from new members, social tennis is back at ETC. The social season kicked off in February on a beautiful summer night; three courts were used for mixed doubles and many members stayed on for drinks and a chat afterwards. Tennis courts are available for social tennis from 7.00 pm every Monday. The Club asks for $2 towards the cost of lights. Members of ETC can express their interest in joining in social tennis nights by notifying the club’s online community through Facebook. Simply: join ETC’s Facebook page:
Either ‘like’ or ‘comment’ on a social tennis status update before 5pm every Monday.
Note. Members can also use ETC’s Facebook page to organise a hitting partner or group with other members at other times during the week.
Social tennis is a great way to get back into tennis if you’re recovering from injury or a long break, or working on your pre-season fitness.ETC has recently made Facebook and Twitter accounts, which will be used to communicate member and competition news to the club’s members online. The accounts will be maintained by a number of people at ETC, however Megan Smith has kindly agreed to manage the content on the Facebook page. If you have any feedback or suggestions on these pages, please email Megan at membership@eaglemonttennis.org.au). In the meantime, members can join the club’s accounts on Facebook and Twitter and use them to engage with other ETC group members and followers online.
Most club members have provided an email address to enable ETC to easily contact them. If you have an email account but have not shared the details with ETC, then please do so by .
In recent times, joining members have been asked to choose whether to receive club notices by email, instead of by post. These include 'official' notices, such as advice about Annual General Meetings (AGMs). ETC is required to send AGM notices firstly by post, however, if you would like to receive this mail electronically instead of via post, please send a short stating this change.
For some time now, ETC's bank account has been with Bendigo Bank. Quite a few club members continue to use ETC’s old Westpac account, which has been kept open for a transition period. The Westpac account will soon be shut down so please ensure that all payments to ETC are made to the Bendigo Bank account using the details below.

Last year, the Victorian Government changed the law dealing with associations such as ETC. One consequence is that ETC's constitution will need to be updated this year. Prior to that, changes will need to be voted upon at the AGM, in August.
If members would like to contribute to the development of ETC’s constitution prior to the AGM vote, please . ETC’s constitution is available at this page.At long last the clubhouse kitchen has been updated with a new oven. We can all look forward to some Masterchef afternoon teas/suppers … or at least hot pies!
Even though winter is fast approaching, it’s still necessary to water the courts before play as required by weather and court conditions. Dry, dusty courts can be dangerous, and recently some junior members have experienced bad falls at other nearby tennis clubs in the NEJTA. Watering is also essential for maintaining the good long-term conditions of the courts.
It’s been some time since ETC’s last working bee (which was attended by three club members), so all members are encouraged to attend and lend a hand at the upcoming working bee on Sunday 19 May from 10-12pm. At first glance the club grounds look pretty good, but there’s a few small projects that could be completed with the help of members for an hour or so. If you can come along, bring some ideas, tools for painting and gardening and your enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing you there!
This year all members are invited to the annual get-together on Thursday 23 May any time from 11am to 3pm in the Clubhouse.
All members are invited to come for lunch and bring along with a plate of food to share. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Cancer Council of Australia and we usually have a raffle; if anybody has something to contribute, feel free to contact either Marina or Adelina.
We welcome all club members, friends and family and junior parents if you are available for good food, good company and a great cause.
For further information please contact Marina (9457 5876) or Adelina (9459 2006).
